Summer Intensive Euphoria

It’s hard to believe that it is time to start thinking about summer intensive programs again! I refuse to. I cannot find the energy. As one of the balletmoms said “I need a mentor!”

Well, let’s hope that mentors are not necessary yet, and we can get through this season of auditions, applications and whatnots with ease and no stress.

I have to admit that I am looking at summer intensives selfishly a bit. I want it to be somewhere our family will enjoy it. This is, at least until my ballerinas can go on their own. Finding a program that works for you is something that helps narrow your search and auditions in the future. And I think we may have just found one!

As amazing as London was for Mia and my husband, lets face it, that is not something most people could afford to do every summer. However, Southland ballet, on the other hand, yes please! Many beautiful beaches, nice hotels, delicious food, catching sunrays during the day, enjoying the breeze at night, who couldn’t get used to this. Oh and ballet! A lot of it!

While we enjoyed all of the above, Mia spent her time in the studio. And, truthfully, she could not be happier. She was in love with every class, with all the amazing faculty and staff, not to mention all the great dancers she was surrounded with, and most importantly her BFF was there as well! She did not need anything else!

It makes all the difference in the world, to have friends to share these experiences with. Not just for Mia, but for me too! Having Mia’s BFF’s mom (one of my BFF balletmoms) there, made the ballet experience so much more! All those times driving to the studio and back was leading up to the most beautiful Gala, which I do not think I would have enjoyed as much as I have, if I did it alone.

Another school that Mia missed going to, was her own school SLC Ballet. And their program is just as amazing, and 5 min from our house. This year, that will be our focus. The schools my girls LOVE.

So, if you have a school that you like do not look elsewhere! That is my advice to you. You will find yourself in a big dilemma like we did last year. Some schools will offer scholarships, which is hard to say NO to, however if it is not something your dancer wants in their heart, do not settle! This is their precious time, and let’s be honest, this is and should be your vacation! You work so hard all year for your dancer, so it your summer intensive break. Treat yourselves!
